AVIF

A next-generation image format based on the AV1 video codec that provides better compression than WebP and JPEG.

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) typically achieves 50% smaller file sizes than JPEG at comparable quality. Browser support now includes all major browsers. AVIF encoding is more CPU-intensive than WebP but produces significantly smaller files, making it the preferred format for bandwidth-sensitive performance optimisation where LCP improvement is the goal.
