Core Algorithm Update
A broad update to Google's search ranking algorithm that can significantly change how websites rank across many queries.
Google releases core algorithm updates multiple times per year. Unlike targeted updates (like spam updates), core updates represent broad changes to how Google assesses content quality and relevance. Core Web Vitals became a ranking factor via the Page Experience Update in 2021. Core updates can cause significant ranking fluctuations for affected sites.
